The San Francisco International Wine Competition (SFIWC), among the world’s crucial red wine competitors, has actually launched the leading gewurztraminers from its 2022 evaluating.

The Best Sparkling Sak é was theHachinohe Shuzo Co Ltd Sparkling Sak é Brut Nature, 8000 Hassen Dry, Japan.

The Judging Panel explained the Sak é as revealing:

Malty fragrances followed by flower, some dried fruit/dried apricot, Japanese plum notes, and an extremely minor medical scent. The rice red wine reveals a vigorous level of acidity with a tasty, medium-length surface and remaining fruit notes.

Top honors for Best Varietal Sparkling went toSt Julian NV Traminette, Sweet Nancie, Lake Michigan Shore, Michigan, U.S.A., $13

Grapey, with stone fruit, earthy and yeasty notes, accompanied by tips of smoke. The red wine includes moderate level of acidity, with a semi-sweet, remaining surface of stone fruit notes.

Aromatic, organic, “marquis-like,” with tips of rosemary and some ripe pear on the nose. It’s organic on the taste buds, including moderate level of acidity and a medium-length surface.

The Best Chenin Blanc was Lubanzi 2022 Chenin Blanc, W.O Swartland, South Africa, $15. South Africa has a well-deserved track record for making impressive, wonderfully priced Chenin Blanc red wines. At a sticker price of $15, it’s an extraordinary worth.

The main SFIWC tasting note explained the Chenin Blanc as revealing:

Some apple, pear, and lemon-lime notes, with a tip of organic fragrances on the nose and taste buds. Moderate to vigorous level of acidity with a long surface of remaining green apple and lemon notes.

The top-ranked Viognier was Jefferson Vineyards 2019 White Wine, Jefferson’s Own Estate Reserve, Monticello, Virginia, U.S.A., $43. Virginia wineries are quickly acquiring an exceptional track record for impressive red wines and appear especially proficient with Italian red wine varietals.

The leading ranked Chardonnay red wines at the 2022 San Francisco Internatioanl Wine Competition

The Best Chardonnay was Rodney Strong Vineyards 2019 Chardonnay, Chalk Hill, Chalk Hill, U.S.A., $22.

The main tasting note read:

Rich and somewhat velvety, minerally, with a tip of smokiness and notes of orchard and stone fruit on the nose and taste buds. The red wine includes a long surface, with remaining orchard fruit and lemon-lime notes.

The top-scoring Muscat was Jeff Runquist Wines 2021 Muscat, River Junction, California, U.S.A., $19.

The main evaluating note explained the Muscat red wine as showing:

Floral, with yeasty/malty fragrances and a touch of minerality. The taste buds has a tip of sweet taste, a velvety rice pudding texture, and a touch of bitterness on the surface.

The Best Ice Wine (All White Varietals) was the Bluestone Vineyard 2017 Traminette, Estate, Bluestone Vineyard, Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, U.S.A., $30.

The Judging Panel explained the red wine as showing:

An intense golden color, with dried golden raisins, ripe apples, and minor organic undertones on the nose. Sweet and tangy on the taste buds, with noticable level of acidity, a touch of minerality, and a long, sweet, dried fruit surface.

The top-ranked Fruit Wine was the Maan Farms Estate Winery 2021 Strawberry Table Wine, Fraser Valley, Canada, $23

The Judging Panel explained the red wine as proving:

Distinctive and focused strawberry fragrances, with simply a tip of dried apricot on the nose. Sweet on the taste buds, well stabilizing, with really vigorous level of acidity and a long, effective strawberry note surface.
