It’s rarely that Austinites hear problems about more music places, however it’s everything about area, area, area. Downtown areas are attempting to keep their heads above water– or more particularly, above all the high-end apartments considering the location– however things alter out in nature. In Southwest Austin, a union called Stop Fitzhugh Concert Venue thinks the location would be much better off without a proposed music place.

Fitzhugh Concert Venue, the name for an unnamed place proposed for 14820Fitzhugh Rd out near Dripping Springs, began producing debate at a public meeting of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), on November 29. Blizexas LLC, the business proposing the 5,000-person place, was looking for a wastewater license, and the neighborhood had more concerns about how the place would affect the environment.

Community Impact reports that “[t] he place would provide to 5,000 individuals daily approximately 3 times a week for approximately 6 hours, according to the license.” Google Maps reveals the proposed area surrounding a church, stables, and a baseball training center, backed by a big swath of relatively vacant land.

As the union mentions, it is likewise positioned near Shield Ranch, which secures 6,400 acres within the Barton Creek watershed. Some of the location is wild, however Shield Ranch recently broke ground on an enthusiastic, environmentally progressive campground with long-term structures to host approximately 200 visitors. The union reveals issue not simply for eco-friendly effect on the cattle ranch, however metropolitan disturbances to a quieter life in the surrounding neighborhood.

“In simply a couple of weeks’ time, more than 700 next-door neighbors have actually arranged versus this proposed performance place that our neighborhood does not desire,” union member Sue Munns stated in a news release. “This would basically alter the lifestyle for everyone who have actually picked to live out here since of the speed of life and natural charm. We do not wish to hear the shows from our houses. We wish to have the ability to see the night sky not glare from intense lights. We wish to feel safe driving on our narrow, two-lane roadways, and we do not desire Barton Creek jeopardized from water overflow.”

Munns continued, “The bottom line here is the designers are requiring security deteriorations and lifestyle modifications on a neighborhood that does not desire it, and they do not appear to appreciate the impression they are making or the households they are disturbing at the same time.”

The Stop Fitzhugh Concert Venue site sets out its objections in 4 classifications: light, sound, traffic, and water. Each is accompanied by a map. The light and sound maps spread out throughout both sides of Barton Creek, representing locations that would have the ability to see and hear the place, provided theoretical requirements like 20-foot light poles and optimum decibels permitted by state law. It mentions eco-friendly issues from National Geographic and the International Dark Sky Association.

In the traffic area, the site keeps in mind not just a boost in traffic, however a high capacity for alcohol-impaired driving and overflow parking. (If the entire place capability of 5,000 came 2 per automobile, there would still be 500 cars and trucks searching for parking areas.) The wastewater area– the preliminary subject at hand in the November 29 conference– asserts that based upon information from other companies in the location, it is extremely not likely that the place would keep its contaminants within its legal limitations.

Most of the complaints presented by the union are not special to performance places, however they are drastically increased. The site does not use suggestions, other than that the place just is not constructed. The just contacts us to action consist of a kind to sign up with the union, and info on calling regional agents. The union has 3 main partners: The Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance (GEAA), the Save Barton Creek Association, and the Save Our Springs Alliance.

For now, individuals close by thinking about seeing live music will just get as close as the handful of breweries, distilleries, and wineries currently lining Fitzhugh Road, however it is affordable to presume that a less disruptive place would likewise use a milder collection.

“The Austin area is experiencing quick development and advancement, which benefits the economy and develops chance for individuals who live here,” Shield Ranch co-owner Bob Ayres stated in the release. “However, nobody is requesting this proposed place. It’s unneeded, badly designed and threatens to considerably effect Barton Creek and the natural and human neighborhoods in the area.”
